CDR Brian Gilligan currently serves as the Commanding Officer (CO) of NR ONI 0682, which is located in Millington, TN. He assumed command of this Unit in December 2014. CDR Gilligan started his career by enlisting in the Navy's Advanced Paygrade Program in 1991. He affiliated with the Navy Reserve as an Intelligence Specialist, 3rd Class. His first assignment was as an Intelligence Analyst with AIC 1472, located at NAS Glenview, IL. In December 1993, he received a Direct Commission as an Ensign.
Over the next several years, CDR Gilligan served in a variety of roles with increasing leadership responsibilities at NR ONI 0972 and NR EUCOM JAC 0366, located at JRISE Fort Sheridan, including Analyst, Quality Control Officer, Team Leader, Production Officer, Training Officer, and Division Chief.
His most recent reserve assignments prior to taking command of ONI 0682 included serving as Executive Officer of the STRATCOM-Intel Unit located at Offutt AFB, NE, from 2013-2014; and as Operations/Production Officer for the Office of Naval Intelligence 1992 Unit, located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH, from 2010-2013.
CDR Gilligan was mobilized to JAC Molesworth, UK from 2002-2003. He also deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in 2013. He served as Chief, External Relations, for the Information Engagements Division, International Joint Command, International Security Assistance Force.
He is the recipient of the following personal awards: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Afghan Service Medal, NATO Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medals (3 awards), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Medal (2 awards), Overseas Service Medal, Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
